1. Open floor plans
Open floor plans mean a lack of privacy and lack of privacy means a lack of function. It is already the need of the hour to have multifunctional spaces in your home. The open floor plan takes away that basic division of spaces. People are in need of rooms with doors, windows, and some privacy. But that is not going to happen overnight or in a few days.
For people having existing open floor plans, you can change that to fit your need by adding room dividers, or a door. People are leaning towards more flexible and closed layouts because people want privacy and separation. Physical and audio separation is much more needed when you are attending a video call, your kid is studying via zoom call and other members of the house are also trying to work.
2. Minimal style
With the pandemic, the time we spend at home and all the different activities we indulge in makes it practically impossible for anyone to keep it clean and minimal. Maintaining that look becomes impossible and this chore requires extra effort.
We have accumulated so many extra things for us to work from home that require a proper storage system but it’s practically impossible to store everything given the sizes and space constraints in our homes. It is no more of a functional choice to try and keep the minimal sleek look. It is time to return to reality and move away from perfect shapes and sleek design. We are bound to go back to basics.
3. Single-use spaces
As our days of “working temporarily from the couch” are left far behind since the start of 2020, people have said goodbye to the short-term kind of lifestyle. Our home space is being used for so many various purposes.
With the increasing use of multi-functional spaces, these single-use- spaces are almost extinct. They are sheer wastage of space to use for one and only function when you can make them multi-purpose and utilize your home spaces better.
4. Fast furniture
Furniture pieces that have good quality and can serve us better are being preferred over pieces that aren’t that well made. Inexpensive furniture and accessories that won’t do for the long haul are slowly being rejected.
Now we need multi-functional rooms, flexible and adaptive areas where quality plays an important role when spaces are playing different roles at different times. Quality pieces also carry important meaning and they play an intricate role in different events of your life that happen in those spaces. 6. Modern farmhouse style
This style has been overdone in city apartments. Shiplap walls, barn doors simply look out of place in the city apartments and suburban homes.
With more rich textures and art deco style coming back in the fashion we are noticing a decline in the modern farmhouse style.
7. All white interiors or Neutral style
All whites or neutral tones are slowly switching to more color, visuals, and playful design. A bold statement piece or unique decor piece is what will catch your attention.

8. Non- Real anything
Less plastic or man-made materials and more natural and organic materials. We are all experiencing first-hand, how important it is to have these real plants or feel those natural fabrics around in our homes.
People have different ways of incorporating these like having small plants on your work desk or having a complete wall of live plants in your living room. It is the “Biophilic design year”.

9. Slipcovers for sofa and chairs
We have modern furniture that uses high standard material with stain-resistant fabrics.
These outdated slipcovers just make your furniture look dull and sloppy with no sense of style. There is no need for these in today’s world with all the high-tech fabrics in upholstery.
10. Mid Century Modern
People are moving from typical brown furniture pieces to colorful art deco style.
These browns pull you away from vibrant colors like greens which are on a rising trend this year. Hence the mid-century modern style is on its way out giving way to colorful interiors.
11. Grey on Grey looks
They are dull and cold color schemes, that lack their own style statement. These grey spaces might become the reason to lower productivity and thus people are preferring more dynamic and colorful spaces.

15. Smooth uniform and an all-white kitchen
These man-made materials and plain white finishing are losing their grip slowly and are going out of fashion for the very simple reason we have been talking about in this blog.
It simply lacks color and the vibrancy people are craving in their homes right now. No one wants to be working in a boring, “not-so-interesting ” space. Everyone is leaning towards textures, finishes, colors, more natural materials.
These trends have been around for quite some time now but 2020 has opened our eyes as to what looks beautiful is always not practical. This has been the first time that we are inside our homes 24×7 and literally doing everything from within our homes.
